Is it as simple as the below - or does it say something about the need to approach large scale business with a more business-like approach? If you are going to do an acquisition trail of this scale, involving that many transactions, it will always be really challenging to pull off. 

Law firms are still very much behind the curve in terms of embracing governance, the need to bring in qualified practitioners in key business areas to drive the development, the value that can be obtained from strong NED involvement etc. 

Would be great to see someone start from that perspective and then produce a game changer.
