Interesting approach being taken here and would be great to see this sort of visualisation spread wider. Our experience is that internal and external reporting is often very word heavy and often doesn't show the wood from the trees. If data is inaccessible, people engage less with it and anything that promotes engagement in firm finance has to be a positive.
Communicating law firm financials is a formulaic process: the standard press release, the revenue trend spun into a positive story, the artfully modest quote from the managing partner and – obligatory this year – the Brexit reference. But this year there was an extra twist, with two firms beginning to embrace data visualisation as part of their communication strategies. Allen & Overy and Clyde & Co supplemented their year-end announcements with PDFs of infographics, in which the firms took the opportunity to add in specific spins of their own. Infographic approach to law firm financials brings obvious advantages in that the reader is able to digest a clear dataset, notably revenue and profit.
